PASSENGER TRAFFIC UP 11.8 PERCENT IN FEBRUARY

PITTSBURGH – Passenger traffic continued to increase through the beginning of the year as Pittsburgh International Airport saw its busiest February since 2008 due to increasing seats and flights.

In February, total passengers were up 11.8 percent for the month and up 10.2 percent year-to-date. This is following year-over-year gains of 8.6 percent in January and 13 percent in December.

“2018 is off to a fantastic start, and we are happy to see that more people in our region are taking advantage of all our flights and airlines,” said Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis. “Matching regional demand with targeted nonstop routes and carriers is key in propelling our momentum and the region’s success.”

In addition to United announcing expanded year-round service and a second daily flight to San Francisco that will operate from June to October, OneJet started service to Kansas City and West Palm Beach last week on a 30-seat regional jet. Two wide-body 767s will also serve the airport with transatlantic service this summer – Delta to Paris and Condor to Frankfurt, which begin in May.

International traffic was up 43.7 percent in February thanks to weekly Caribbean charter service on Allegiant to Cancun and Punta Cana, Delta to Cancun and year-round European service on WOW air.

Additionally, new service is scheduled to begin in coming weeks to cities including Sarasota, Fla. and Charleston, S.C. on Allegiant; Montreal on Air Canada; Salt Lake City on Delta; and Seattle on Alaska.

Total passengers for the month of February totaled 630,468 as compared with 564,135 in 2017. Through February, 1,270,333 passengers had traveled through PIT compared with 1,153,098 through February of last year.

New service added in the last twelve months by Spirit, WOW air, Delta, Southwest and OneJet, as well as capacity growth to Boston on JetBlue and Delta; to Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Philadelphia and Miami on American; to Newark on United; and to Fort Lauderdale on Southwest contributed to the growth in seats and flights for the month.
