PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL NAMED A T+L TOP 10 DOMESTIC AIRPORT, AGAIN!

From the moment they land, passengers traveling through Pittsburgh International Airport get to experience the unique vibe of a revitalized region.

PIT landed at number 6 on Travel and Leisure’s 10 Best Domestic Airports for 2017. This is a two-spot jump from last year’s ranking. PIT received a score of 75.79, just .17 behind the fifth ranking airport, Austin-Bergstrom International, Texas (75.96). Yeah…stay weird, Austin.

Inside-Core.jpgSome of the attributes cited by passengers making the top airports stand out from the pack include: easy access, a vast selection of restaurants, and design with a sense of place. Pittsburgh International is solid on the latter, as you can see in a quote from the article: “Lots of cool landmarks inside the airport, like a T. Rex skeleton and a statue of former Steelers football player Franco Harris. Welcome to Pittsburgh!”

True devotees of black and gold nostalgia also know the statue of former Steelers fullback Franco Harris is the most photographed spot in the Airside Terminal, and is directly adjacent to a statue of George Washington, an early explorer in western Pennsylvania. Both are on display at the airport courtesy of the Heinz History Center, a Smithsonian affiliated museum in Pittsburgh’s famous Strip District.

George and Franco are just a few of the cultural objects and artwork located throughout Pittsburgh International designed to enhance visitors’ experience and raise awareness of the region’s rich amenities and history.

Thank you, travelers, for noticing! Next year, watch out Portland. We’re coming for you!
