FIRST TIME FLYERS PROGRAM TAKES MYSTERY OUT OF TRAVEL; NEXT COURSES OFFERED IN APRIL AT PIT

With ever-changing security rules, sprawling airport complexes and media coverage of aircraft and airport emergencies, it’s easy to understand all the unease. But fear not, Pittsburghers! Pittsburgh International Airport offers a course that helps you become a more relaxed, confident traveler.

Our First Time Flyers program is designed to guide you through the process of flying from booking to boarding. The next courses will be offered on April 26 and 29.

The program begins in a classroom setting and culminates in an airport tour and potential boarding of an aircraft if conditions permit. Each student is given a guidebook that outlines procedures for booking a flight, getting to the airport and parking, checking in, going through security, navigating the airport and finding departures gates, and other useful information.

Students also receive a sample boarding pass and walk through the check-in and security process to the Airside Terminal. The group also learns how to find their flight number and gate, and experiences the boarding process.

Those who attended the inaugural First Time Flyers course in January, many of whom had never flown or had not flown in several years, said they highly recommend the course to others.

“The course took the mystery out of the process and made me want to travel more,” said one participant.

“I feel more acclimated to the airport and rules in place, and it’s nice to know there are people to assist you. It sure helped my confidence level,” said another participant.

The next First Time Flyers courses are April 26 from 6 pm to 8 pm and April 29 from noon to 2 p.m. For more information and to register online, please follow the link: http://www.flypittsburgh.com/programs-services/programs/first-time-flyers
