|PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PASSENGER TRAFFIC REPORT FOR SEMPTEMBER 2012
PITTSBURGH, PA (November 7, 2012) – Five airlines show a year-to-date increase in passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport: Delta (0.7 percent), United (1.1 percent), American (2.1 percent), JetBlue (13.5 percent), and Air Canada (0.6 percent), according to the Scheduled Airline Traffic Report, prepared by the Allegheny County Airport Authority.
Additionally, Delta (1,109,510), United (1,000,420), US Airways (1,554,378) and Southwest (1,096,335) each have more than 1 million passengers through September 2012. It is the first time four carriers have ever eclipsed that mark at Pittsburgh International Airport.
Scheduled passenger traffic at Pittsburgh International Airport (www.FlyPittsburgh.com) dropped 5.1 percent in September 2012 compared to September. A total of 640,281 scheduled passengers were enplaned and deplaned at the airport for the month, compared to 674,959 scheduled passengers in September 2011 (640,281 in September 2012/674,959 in September 2011; 5.1 percent decrease). Overall, year-to-date scheduled passenger totals show traffic down 3.5 percent (6,021,221/6,242,710; 3.5 percent).
This is the eighth consecutive month of increases for JetBlue Airways, which provides three flights a day to Boston and two flights a day to New York JFK from Pittsburgh International Airport, two of the region’s most important business markets. Recognized with numerous JD Power and Associates awards, JetBlue provides competitive airfares and has a mission to provide superior customer service. This airline is the major reason fares to New York airports and Boston are low price.
For September 2012 three airlines reported increases in traffic. AirTran showed the biggest gain with a 6.9 percent increase, followed by JetBlue (5.2 percent) and United (2.0 percent). United’s increase made it the third busiest airline in terms of passengers in September, behind US Airways and Delta.
