- Albany and Ashville airports shared packets on their programs: forms,
brochures, policies, insurance requirements, etc.
- Most programs are funded by the Airport Authority
- Many promote the opportunities for artists on their websites.
- Albany: $115,000 annual budget, rotating exhibit twice a year, stipend
paid to artist for site specific work $2,500, four year limit.
- If the art work permits it, the art is returned to the artist at end of
term.
- Maintenance is now an important part of the planning process. Rhode Island has a conservation fund.
- Port of Oakland has a contract with the Oakland Museum to handle the
program.
- Art sales: Some airports collect
up to 30 percent commission on sales of the artwork. Some just refer interested parties
back to the artists.
- Most large installations are solicited with the RFP. Art panelists and architect provides
input, recommendation. Labyrinth
has a $500,000 budget.
|
|
28
|
- Big push for Interactive Art using lights sounds, motion sensing. Maintenance includes electrical,
software, hardware. Usually the
artist stays involved with this maintenance.
- Examples include Miami International Airport Rainbow Glass on Moving
Walkway, DFW Labyrinth of Glass in the International Terminal.
|
|
29
|
- Concern is Art Vandalism: Toronto Tilted Spheres, graffiti made from
fingernail scratching. Took
months and $$$$$ to restore and protect without using harsh toxic
chemicals.
